Cop stabbed in the eye during Sta. Catalina pursuit

A police officer was seriously injured after being stabbed in the eye by a suspect during a hot pursuit operation in Brgy. Milagrosa, Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental, on Wednesday evening, Sept. 3.

The police said the officer was part of a responding team investigating an earlier stabbing in the barangay.

When they attempted to arrest the suspect, a 35-year-old resident of Brgy. Milagrosa, he suddenly attacked and stabbed the officer in the right eye.

The policeman was rushed to Ace Hospital in Bayawan City with heavy bleeding after a major artery was hit.

He underwent emergency treatment before being referred to a hospital in Dumaguete City.

The suspect tried to escape by jumping out of the window of his house but was pursued and arrested near a river in the barangay.

The police said that before stabbing the officer, the suspect also attacked a 58-year-old woman after she refused to sell him liquor.

The woman was stabbed seven times and was also brought to Ace Hospital for treatment.

The Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office said appropriate charges will be filed against the suspect, who remains in police custody.*
