The repair of the eroded approach to the Himogaan Bridge in Barangay Puey, Sagay City, following Saturday’s flood, will be paid for by the contractor as the project has not been turned over to the provincial government yet, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said on Monday, Jan. 2.

The project has also not been fully paid for, he added.

Diaz clarified that it is the approach, not the bridge itself, that was damaged, and repairs will be undertaken by the contractor immediately.

Provincial Engineer Ernie Mapa said that sacks filled with sand seen at the damaged area were placed there to prevent erosion during the construction phase. These sacks were not part of the compacted embankment, he said.

ESJ Construction will undertake the repairs immediately, Mapa said.

About 10 meters of the approach on the north side of the bridge was damaged. There was also slight damage to the approach on the  other end, Mapa said.*
