Mayor Greg Gasataya said on Monday, Sept. 8, that he has asked the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to ensure that safety measures are taken to prevent public utility posts at drainage construction sites at Jovita and Carmen streets in Bacolod City from falling and endangering public safety.

“I asked the DPWH to inform the contractor undertaking the project to ensure the safety of the public,” Gasataya said.

He added that if no action is taken, the city government can impose sanctions.

Four electric and telecommunication posts that fell on Sunday at Jovita Street, where drainage work is underway, have been repaired and are stable, Bacolod DPWH District Engineer Leah Jamero said.

Jamero said they are ensuring that safety measures are in place. The contractor has also been instructed to hasten the completion of the work and to clear the area.

A sign at the construction site states that the P93.4 million project started Feb. 14 and its contract completion day was May 14 this year.

The drainage project is being undertaken by JF Uy Construction Services, Jamero said.*
