A community memorial for former president Benigno Aquino III will be held at the San Antonio Abad Parish Church in Bacolod City 5:30 p.m. Saturday, July 3.

It will start with a 5:30 p.m. mass followed by candle lighting rites, Agnes Hechanova, one of the organizers, said.

COVID-19 protocols will be observed inside the Church during the mass and on the grounds for the candle lighting, she said.

Hechanova said those participating are urged to bring their candles and flowers.

Aquino, 61 , died peacefully in his sleep on June 24. He succumbed to renal disease secondary to diabetes.

He was the 15th president of the Philippines from 2010 to 2016.

Hechanova said they want to offer prayers and a tribute to Aquino through a mass as a community in lieu of just posts on social media on the 10th day from his death.

“We continue to mourn his untimely passing and we want people to know that he deserves the accolades he is getting only now – because he was decent, true to his service to all Filipinos and his values are the core of what Filipinos really care for,” she said.

“Noynoy in death is the light we need in this time of darkness. And his example offers us hope and with it we can continue his fight for justice and good governance,” Hechanova added.*
