Comelec expects swift proclamation of winners

The election winners in the towns and cities of Negros Occidental are expected to be proclaimed by midnight Monday to at the latest Tuesday morning, Provincial Elections Supervisor Ian Lee Ananoria said.

The Negros Occidental Provincial Board of Canvassers chaired by Ananoria convened to consolidate the results of the elections in the province at the Social Hall of the Provincial Capitol in Bacolod City at 1 p.m . Monday.

Provincial Prosector Hermes Ariño is vice chairperson of the board and Provincial Schools Division Superintendent Anthony Liobet is member-secretary.

Ananoria said when the polls closed at 7 p.m. Monday the Municipal and City Board of Canvassers were expected to transmit the vote results to the Provincial Board Canvassers.

“All things going well the results will be completed in the towns and cities by 10 to 11 p.m. Monday and by midnight to 1 a.m. Tuesday at the Provincial Board of Canvassers level”, he said.

The best case scenario is winners could be proclaimed by midnight and the worst case scenario by noon Tuesday, Ananoria said.

Ananoria said except for the shooting incident in Silay City, the elections in Negros Occidental was relatively peaceful.

He said they were minor technical problems with Automated Counting Machines and USBs that were immediately addressed.

Bacolod Elections Officer Revo Sorbito also said minor technical problems were experienced in Bacolod City that were immediately addressed.*
