Cold storage facility inaugurated, groundbreaking for abattoirs held

Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson and Bago City Mayor Nicholas Yulo led the inauguration of the newly constructed cold storage and meat cutting facilities in Brgy. Lag-asan, Bago City, Thursday afternoon, May 11.

Lacson said the high-standard slaughterhouses in some local government units of the province are established and supported by the provincial government to help boost the local economy.

Yulo thanked Lacson for donating the structure “that will create more livelihood opportunities and economic activities in the city”.

They are looking into the possibility of exporting quality meat products in the future, and for Bago City to be known for “Negros Wagyu”, a press release from the Capitol said.

The facility will be managed by the Bago City Office for Veterinary Affairs.

Lacson also led the groundbreaking ceremonies of the abattoir (slaughterhouse) projects in San Carlos City and Toboso on Wednesday, May 10.

Both projects will be established through the Department of Agriculture-led Philippine Rural Development Project (DA-PRDP), and funded by the World Bank, national government, and the provincial government of Negros Occidental.

The San Carlos and Toboso abattoirs will start operations next year, the press release said.*
