The Coast Guard District Southern Visayas (CGDSV) announced that the four Coast Guard stations in Negros Island Region issued travel advisories suspending all sea travel because of strong winds and rough seas brought on by Tropical Depression “Wilma”.
The Northern Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Siquijor, and Southern Negros Occidental stations issued sea travel suspensions on Friday, Dec. 5.
The district said it continues to coordinate with PAGASA, local government units, and disaster risk reduction offices for monitoring and updates as the weather system persists.
Meanwhile, there were 705 passengers, drivers, and cargo helpers who were stranded on Friday.
A total of 19 vessels and 269 rolling cargoes were also unable to travel, while seven vessels were monitored taking shelter.
No motorbancas were reported stranded or taking shelter.
CGDSV said it remains on red alert status as part of heightened preparedness measures due to the weather disturbance.*
