City gov’t officials distribute financial aid to fire victims

Bacolod City officials led the distribution of financial assistance to the victims of the fire that hit Purok Neptune in Barangay Singcang-Airport at rites at the Jose R. Torres Elementary School evacuation center, Friday, April 29.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia, Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran and Rep. Greg Gasataya led the Department of Social Services and Development distribution of P10,000 each in financial assistance to families whose houses were destroyed, and P5,000 each to families whose houses were damaged, a Bacolod Public Information Office press release said.

House sharers will also receive P3,000 each, it added.

The affected families are now staying in classrooms, instead of in the tents at the covered court, to prevent the transmission of C OVID-19, the press release said.

The fire hit 55 houses in Purok Neptune on Monday, April 26, affecting 61 families or 235 individuals.

Of the 61 families, the houses of 46 were destroyed, 10 had damaged houses and five were sharers, the press release said.

Also at the distribution rites were Councilors Renecito Novero, Simple Distrito and Al Victor Espino, City Administrator Em Ang, Barangay Singcang-Airport Captain Rosinie Distrito and other barangay officials, and Sally Abelarde of the DSSD.*
