The Bacolod City government will start impounding illegally parked vehicles soon.

Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said, at a press conference on Friday, November 18, that the city government will be towing and impounding illegally parked vehicles in Bacolod to prevent traffic congestion, which could be in place before the end of the year.

“We are finalizing an agreement with the proponent to exercise impounding and towing enforcement,” he said.

The mayor also announced that the Task Force Spaghetti Wires has removed 44 tons of old and unused telecommunication and electricity wires along the city’s major roads since June.

The “spaghetti wires” were brought to the stockyards of the telecommunication firms, he said.

So far only PLDT has donated its “spaghetti wires” to the city government to be given to farmers for their vegetable trellises, Benitez said.

The mayor said they will follow up with the other firms if they wish to donate their “spaghetti wires” for the productive use of the farmers.

The city government is also set to adopt the Negros Occidental provincial government’s Capitol Cab system for the use of its about 65 vehicles, Benitez said.

Instead of the vehicles being assigned to the different departments a share service will be adopted for more efficient use, he said.

They are now pooling the city’s vehicles so all departments will have access to their use, the mayor said.*
