The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) of the Philippine National Police seized firearms and ammunition from a sugar mill compound reportedly owned by former Negros Oriental Gov. Henry Pryde Teves in Barangay Caranoche, Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental, Friday morning, March 24.
The former governor is the brother of beleaguered Rep. Arnolfo Teves (Neg. Or., 3rd District) who has been linked to the murder of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo.
Henry Pryde Teves had been unseated as Negros Oriental governor in October last year and replaced by Degamo.
Col. Thomas Valmonte, CIDG legal officer, told reporters they were implementing a search warrant for illegal possession firearms at the sugar compound owned by Henry Pryde Teves.
The CIDG conducted the raid with the support of 11th Infantry Battalion soldiers.
They initially recovered no less than 10 unlicensed firearms, including three long firearms, and ammunition in a house, but they were also searching other areas in the compound, Valmonte said.
Three persons arrested during the raid had not been identified yet.
The former governor was not in the compound and there was no resistance from people inside, he said.
“There is an informant who informed us that firearms are being kept here in the compound,” the search is part of the CIDG’s Oplan Paglalansag Omega against illegal firearms, and not related to the Degamo slay, he said.
About P17 million in cash was also reportedly seized during the raid, but no official confirmation had been made.*
