A driver of the Bacolod Cosmopolitan Christian Church was shot dead by an unidentified gunman outside the church in Brgy. Taculing, Bacolod City, at about 11:20 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 24.

The victim was Efren Banaglorioso, 59, of Barangay Granada.

Capt. Rosalindo Pugoy Jr., Bacolod Police Station 6 commander, said the victim went out of the church gate and was standing near a parked car when a black Mitsubishi Montero sports utility vehicle made a U-turn and stopped near him.

A masked suspect wearing a shirt with multi-colored long sleeves then got out of the vehicle’s back seat and shot Banaglorioso multiple times, hitting him on the head, back and chest, killing him on the spot.

The suspect immediately fled in the waiting vehicle.

Scene of the Crime Operatives recovered six empty shells of an unidentified firearm at the crime scene.

Investigators are still working to establish the motive behind the killing, Pugoy said.

Witnesses said they saw the gunman’s vehicle parked in front of an antique store for some time and when the victim went out of the gate the vehicle was driven close to him to enable the gunman to get down and shoot him.

The victim, a father of four, had worked for the church for about 37 years and had no known enemies or vices.

His killing just before the Sunday church service ended came as a shock to churchgoers, some of whom were seen crying.

One of the bullets hit the windshield of a car parked nearby.

Granada Barangay Captain Armando Vito also said Banaglorioso had no known bad record in their barangay.*
