CHO temporarily closes 14 more wells for disinfection

The City Health Office temporarily closed down 14 more wells in Bacolod City for disinfection to prevent the spread of water-borne diseases, Dr. Grace Tan, head of the Environmental Sanitation Division of the City Health Office, said on Thursday, November 17.

The wells that were subjected to chlorination will be closed for 24 hours, she said.

Closed down were six wells in Barangay Taculing, and four each in barangays 18 and Alijis.

Twelve 12 wells in Purok Luhod-luhod, Barangay Mandalagan, that were disinfected were also temporarily closed down for 24 hours last week.

Mandalagan Barangay Captain Paul Biñas Anieve said the base of the 12 wells in the purok will be cemented to prevent dirty water from seeping back in, and covers will be placed on top.

The CHO has reported 307 acute gastroenteritis cases and 10 deaths in Bacolod City since September.

There have also been 21 confirmed cholera cases in Bacolod since SeptemAber, it also reported.*
