The plebiscite on the Central Negros Electric Cooperative and Primelectric Holdings Inc. joint venture agreement (JVA) will push through this weekend, CENECO acting general manager Arnel Lapore said Friday, June 23.
The plebiscite dates are June 24 and 25, July 1 and 2, and July 8 and 9.
Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson called on CENECO consumers to go out and vote.
“This is the most democratic process in getting the feedback from the consumers, so go out and vote,” he said.
Judge Maria Lina Gonzaga of the Bacolod Regional Trial Court Branch 42 on Thursday denied the petition for a temporary restraining order on the JVA filed by Pepito Pico, Rommel Pido and Aaron Sorbito as representatives of the Negros Consumers Watch and Convenors of CENECO Anti JVA Coalition.
Their petition seeks the declaration of nullity of the JVA with application for issuance of a preliminary injunction and or temporary restraining order.
Gonzaga in her order said “for non-compliance with the specific provision of the law, the application for the issuance of a temporary restraining order is denied”.
The hearing for the application for the issuance of a writ of preliminary injunction is set on June 29.
Opponents of the joint venture held a prayer vigil for No to the JVA in front of the CENECO Office Friday.*
