The board of directors of Central Negros Electric Cooperative Inc. (CENECO) are being urged to attend the next Sangguniang Panlungsod hearing regarding its financial status and refund to consumers.

This, after they failed to show up at last week’s hearing that was presided by Bacolod City Councilor Kalaw Puentevella.

The councilor said that the invitation to attend the hearing was sent, but the board members did not
show up. Only those from the management led by acting CENECO general manager Ervin Stan Leo Ticar were present.

Puentevella said he is expecting the board members to show up in the next hearing, which will be either next week or the succeeding week.

He said the board has a lot to clarify, like the series of brownouts, its financial status, the loan, and the refunds.

He lamented that there was no transparency when CENECO made P238 million and P149 million loans, adding that they have to explain this to the consumers.

“We expect a better service,” Puentevella said.

On Wednesday, August 24, the councilor proposed a resolution urging the management of CENECO to consider installing additional consumer hotline numbers for member-consumers of Bacolod for easy access and connection.

He said that many consumers are already complaining due to the series of brownouts and the high power rates, and they could not contact CENECO because its hotline numbers could not be reached.*
