Cauayan boy died of asphyxia due to strangulation

The 11-year-old boy who was found buried in sand near the shoreline in Brgy. Tiling, Cauayan, Negros Occidental, on Monday, Feb. 9, died due to asphyxia caused by strangulation, according to the post-mortem examination.

The Cauayan Municipal Health Office reported that the victim was asphyxiated, which led to his death.

The post-mortem findings also showed wounds and bruises on the victim’s buttocks, which police believe may have been caused by the insertion of a hard object.

Authorities said no other external wounds were found on the victim’s body.

The boy’s body was discovered buried in sand in Purok 1, Brgy. Tiling, after his aunt noticed unusually soft sand in the area where he was last seen playing.

He was brought to the Cauayan Health Office and was declared dead at around 4:50 p.m. on the same day.

Police said investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the child’s death and the identify of the possible persons involved.*
