Eugenio Jose Lacson said the provincial government is coming up with a plan to avoid a food shortage in Negros Occidental, which is becoming a worldwide problem.Food security is something that needs to be addressed and he has asked the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist to come up with recommendations, Lacson said.“We will do our best to avoid a food shortage,” he said, noting that Negros Occidental is not 100 percent self-sufficient yet.Meanwhile, Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena assured that there is no shortage of chickens and pork in Negros Occidental.Negros Occidental produces 2.5 to 3 million chickens a month, and prices of dressed chicken have dropped by P10 per kilo, he said.The province also has a surplus in pork, Decena said.*
