The Negros Occidental provincial government will not declare a state of calamity since the evacuees affected by the recent floods have already gone home, Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said on Thursday, Sept. 26.

He said their concern now is the state of Kanlaon Volcano.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology has warned that the possibility of magmatic eruption at Kanlaon Volcano   remains.

The volcano that is under Alert Level 2 had seven earthquakes and  emitted 7,302 tons of sulfur dioxide  from  12 a.m. Wednesday to 12 a.m. Thursday, Phivolcs reported.

Face-to-face classes in 14 schools in Bago City that were cancelled on Wednesday because of sulfurous odor from Kanlaon Volcano resumed on Thursday.

Lacson said the provincial government can supply face masks to students in areas affected by the sulfur dioxide odor as long as it has supply.

Face masks donations for the school children are needed, Ian Arnold Arnaez, Negros Occidental Schools Division spokesperson, said on Wednesday.*
