Capitol to support greenhouse organic farming, guv says

Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson assured on Thursday, Sept. 11, that the provincial government will continue to support the organic movement in Negros Occidental.

The governor said he instructed the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist to give more attention to the organic farmers under their watch.

The provincial government will be introducing greenhouses to assist the farmers, he said.

He has directed the provincial engineer’s office to come up with the design for the greenhouses, Lacson said.

“By 2026 l expect organic famers under the care of the provincial government to be introduced to the greenhouse method,” he said.

“If it is successful they would be able to increase their production”, he said.

The governor said he would not comment on the proposed genetically modified organisms (GMO) regulatory ordinance for Negros Occidental until the Sangguniang Panlalalwigan has come up with its version.

Organic advocates have aired their opposition to the proposed ordinance.*
