The Negros Occidental provincial government plans to rehabilitate the Paglaum Sports Complex in Bacolod City but may hold it off until after the MassKara Festival in October, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said Thursday, July 6.
Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez has asked to use the Paglaum for the MassKara Festival and Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson’s instructions is to provide the mayor with whatever support he needs, Diaz said.
The stadium’s roof needs repairs after Typhoon Odette, Diaz said.
The provincial government also plans to repair the rooms on the second and third floors of the stadium, which could be used by national government agencies looking for office space, he said.
Diaz said he is waiting for the final plans from the Office of the Provincial Engineer.
Repairs are also aimed at making Paglaum a functional sports facility for basketball and volleyball practice of students from the Negros Occidental High School and other schools, he said.
Meanwhile, the playground at the Capitol Lagoon Park in Bacolod City is being improved at the personal expense of Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, Diaz said.
More slides, swings and seesaws are being added, and the drainage problem at the playground is being addressed, he said.*
