Capitol seeks lab accreditation for ‘walking pneumonia’ tests

The Negros Occidental provincial government is having its molecular laboratory at the Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City accredited for the conduct of mycoplasma pneumoniae or “walking pneumonia” tests.

The laboratory’s medical technicians only need additional training for it to be accredited, Dr. Girlie Pinongan, Provincial Health Officer said.

There have been no “walking pneumonia” cases reported in

the Negros Occidental but the provincial government just wants to be prepared, she said.

Pinongan also said reported COVID-19 cases in Negros Occidental are not high.

There is one reported case in Sagay City and three admitted patients at a Bacolod hospital, she said.

Pinongan said the public should take the necessary precautions, especially during Christmas parties.

As much as possible we encourage the wearing of masks, she said.

It is also important to keep ones immune system strong, she also said.

The Negros Occidental provincial government hospitals will go on Code White alert from Dec. 23 to Jan. 5 for potential emergency cases during the holidays, she said.*
