The Negros Occidental provincial government has regained full control of its hacked Facebook page, Charina Magallanes-Tan, Provincial Information Office head, said Wednesday, Oct. 23.
They are grateful for the quick action by Facebook’s Meta after they sought help to recover the page, she said.
She said the provincial government’s Facebook page plays an important role in disseminating information, especially now that there is a storm when updates need to be posted.
The hacking caused disruption to public service through the provincial government’s Facebook page, she said.
The provincial government has requested the Department of Information and Communications Technology through its Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center to help identify the hackers and their motive.
They have no basis to suspect that the hacking was politically motivated, “we just want to know who was responsible and why,” she said.
The provincial government is strengthening its social media security protocols to prevent a similar incident from happening, she said.
The hackers posted photos of scantily dressed foreign women on the Facebook page of the provincial government on Tuesday.*
