Capitol may put on hold return to 5-day work week

The Negros Occidental provincial government may put on hold its return to a five-day work week amid the rising prices of fuel, Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said Monday, March 14.

The provincial government adopted a four-day work week at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic last year but had planned to return to a five-day work week when the province was placed under Alert Level 1.

The province is currently under Alert Level 2.

“We were already planning to go back to a five-day work week but I think with the fuel price we might put that on hold because it is really quite expensive,” Lacson said, pointing out that most of the provincial government vehicles run on diesel.

“That might be a consideration why we will maintain a four-day work week and a one day work from home, “Lacson said.

“We will have to make sure that all travels of our bureaucracy will be only those important travels because we really have to tighten our belts, especially in the use of fuel,” he said.*
