The Negros Occidental Provincial Legal Office already has persons of interest in the theft of P472,553 worth of vehicle batteries and motor oil from a warehouse at the Provincial Engineer’s Office motorpool at Magsaysay Street in Bacolod City.

Provincial Legal Officer Alberto Nellas Jr. said on Wednesday, Dec. 6, that the PLO is coordinating with the police in its case buildup, but withheld the names of the persons of interest pending completion of the investigation.

The thieves passed through a house behind the wall of the warehouse to get inside through a small hole.

The persons at the adjacent house are among those being investigated, he said.

The PLO is also investigating a possible inside job and negligence, he said.

The provincial government is also looking into installing more CCTV cameras at provincial government properties to beef up security, Nellas said.

Arnel Argusar, General Services Office head, on Tuesday, said they conducted an inventory of the contents of the warehouse and discovered the theft.

The police help was sought and five of the 23 stolen batteries were retrieved in Barangay Pahanocoy, he said.

He said they have a suspect who revealed where the batteries were located.*
