The Negros Occidental provincial government is looking at the possibility of providing loans to its employees who wish to install solar panels in their homes, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said on Monday, Sept. 1.
The Negros Occidental Provincial Capitol is now about 85 percent solar-powered and solar panels are set to be installed in more provincial government buildings and hospitals, he said.
“We’re going green, this shows that the provincial government, under the leadership of Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson…is taking serious steps” to protect the environment, Diaz said.
He said that moving away from coal and diesel power will reduce pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.
The provincial government also hopes to inspire the private sector to adopt similar solar initiatives, Diaz added.*
