Cadiz resident dies, 6 injured in accident

A woman died and her six companions were injured when the vehicle she was driving hit a truck at the highway in Purok Bougainvillea, Brgy. Caduha-an, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, 10 a.m. Saturday, August 10.

The fatality was Jelyn Amante, 37, of Brgy. Tinampa-an, Cadiz City, the police reported.

The driver of the truck is Freddie Mariquit Jr., 39, of Brgy. 21, Victorias City.

Investigation revealed that the victim was driving to Bacolod City while the truck was traveling from Victorias to Cadiz City, the police said.

Upon reaching the place of the accident, the victim mismanaged her vehicle and accidentally hit the left side of the truck, the police added.

It resulted in multiple injuries to the victim and her six other companions.

The injured victims were Nelson Amante, 63, and five minors whose ages were 5, 7, 10, 12, and 16.

Lt. Lovella Cordova, Cadiz City deputy police chief, said that the victim’s family and the truck’s owner agreed on a settlement after the accident and no charges will be filed against the truck driver.*
