Cadiz naming evacuation center in honor of slain OFW – mayor

An evacuation center in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, will be named in honor of Loreta Alacre, the Cadiznon overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who was killed by Hamas militants in Israel, Mayor Salvador Escalante said on Monday, October 23.

The mayor said the Loreta V. Alacre Evacuation Center is located at the Cadiz Viejo National High School where the slain Cadiznon OFW had studied.

He said Alacre, 49, who worked as a caregiver in Israel and was killed on October 7, is the new Bagong Bayani of Cadiz.

The body of Alacre was transferred from the Beniabon Funeral Parlor to her home in Sitio Camay-an, Barangay Cadiz Viejo, Cadiz City, on Monday afternoon in what was dubbed as a hero’s caravan.

Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) head, Arnell Ignacio, Assistant Secretary Felicitas Bay of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and Escalante joined the Alacre family.

The DMW and the OWWA provided P50,000 each in assistance to Loreta’s family and the Department of Labor and Employment will provide a livelihood package.

Scholarships will also be provided to Loreta’s three nephews who are in college and two others who are in senior high school, whom she had been sending to school.*
