
The “patikanay” drumbeating competition headlined the opening salvo of the 50th Dinagsa Festival – the culmination in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, Monday night, January 20.
The “patikanay” showcased artistry, rhythm, and the passion of local tribes.
Named after the Hiligaynon term “patik,” which means to beat or tap rhythmically, “patikanay” symbolizes the festive and dynamic vibe of the event, a press release from Cadiz City said.
The winners were:
- Tribu Hitalon (Barangays Zone 1 and 6) – Champion;
- Tribu TiBanDa (Barangays Tiglawigan, Banquerohan and Daga) – Second Place;
- Tribu Vil-Gus (Barangays Celestino Villacin and V.F Gustilo) or formerly known as Tribu Sewanara – Third Place;
- Tribu MaJeCa (Barangays Magsaysay, Jerusalem and Cabahug) – Fourth Place; and
- Tribu Yabyab Dongol (Barangays Zone 2 and 5) – Fifth Place.
Winning the special awards were Tribu Hitalon and Tribu MaJeca for best in presentation and costume, respectively.
The judges were Marcelino Labtic Jr., Luis Osmeña Jr., and Louis Dormido, who praised the participants for their creativity, skill, and cultural expression, the press release said.*
