Like other incumbent elected public officials, barangay officials who filed their certificates of candidacy (COCs) for the 2025 elections can still continue to hold office, Christian Nagaynay, Department of the Interior and Local Government Bacolod head, assured Friday, Oct. 11.
The delivery of services by elected officials to the people cannot be affected, he said.
At least three Bacolod barangay officials filed COCs for city councilor in the 2025 midterm elections in May.
Meanwhile, appointed government officials and employees are considered resigned from their jobs at the time of filing of their COCs.
The Supreme Court issued a Temporary Restraining Order regarding the COMELEC’s rule that allows appointed public officials to remain in their positions while running in the partylist elections.*
