Bacolod City government officials led the distribution of food packs and hygiene kits to the porters at the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corp. (BREDCO) Port Wednesday, Aug. 18.

The distribution was led by Mayor Bing Leonardia, Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, and Councilor Renecito Novero, a press release from the Bacolod Public Information Office said.

The porters who work for Weesam, 2Go, Supercat, and Ocean Jet are affected of the stoppage of operations since August 3, as advised by their respective shipping lines, the press release said.
The city will also give out food packs to other workers of shipping lines who are affected of the “No Work, No Pay Policy”, it added.

Leonardia also asked for a list of unvaccinated porters and personnel of shipping lines so that the city can assist them to get vaccinated, considering the nature of their work.

Also joining the event were Councilor Israel Salanga, Executive Assistant Butch Soliguen, BREDCO director Willy Au, Port manager Josephine Solis, and Terminal Operations manager Lyn Cantiveros.*
