The body of an unidentified man, believed to have been dead for at least three days, was discovered floating in a river at Purok Alpine, Hacienda Soledad, Brgy. San Vicente, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental, early Saturday morning, Aug. 3.

The victim, estimated to be between 35 to 40 years old and around 5 feet 3 inches to 5 feet 5 inches in height, was wearing a black Jag Thug t-shirt, black pants, a silver wristwatch, and a silver class ring engraved with “BS MAR-E, 2017” and “Maritime Education.”

Tattoos also covered parts of his body with “No Fear” on the left forearm, tribal markings on the hip and leg, and the word “Polar” with a ribbon on the right shoulder.

What raised concern was the condition in which he was found: face down, floating, with a sack covering his head down to his shoulders, and already in an advanced state of decomposition.

Capt. Joelan Vinson, Binalbagan police chief, said that based on the post-mortem exam by the doctor, no physical injuries were found.

“But the body is already decomposing, we estimate he’s been dead for about three days. One possibility we are looking into is that he may have been dumped elsewhere and drifted down the river”, Vinson said.

The police also said there were no reports of foul play observed in the area where the body was found, and no residents of Binalbagan, including those in Brgy. San Vicente, have reported any missing persons so far.

The body was found by a resident who was gathering firewood by the river as it had gotten stuck among a pile of logs.

Police are now coordinating with nearby cities and towns in Negros Occidental to verify if the victim matches any existing missing person reports.

“We’re calling on families who may be looking for a missing loved one. If you think this could be your family member, please come forward”, he said.

He added that the body is currently at a local funeral home, but because of its decomposing state, it’s becoming difficult for the funeral home to keep it much longer.

The Binalbagan police continue to investigate the circumstances of the man’s death while awaiting possible identification from the public.*
