The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology–Negros Island Region (BJMP-NIR) assured the public that all Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) under its custody remain safe and secure following the earthquake that struck Tuesday night, Sept. 30.
BJMP-NIR Regional Director Chief Supt. Brendan Fulgencio said that immediately after the tremor, jail facilities across the region implemented safety protocols to ensure the welfare of PDLs and personnel.
Rapid inspections were conducted to check the structural integrity of detention facilities, with no reported casualties or major damage that could compromise security.
Fulgencio also commended the quick response of jail wardens and personnel, emphasizing that the safety of PDLs and staff remains their highest priority.
“We will continue to monitor our facilities and coordinate with local government units and concerned agencies to ensure readiness in any eventuality,” he said.*
