A bigger Panaad sa Negros Festival is set to open at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City on Monday, April 15.

Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, during the sendoff Saturday of 1,102 security forces for the festival, said this year‘s celebration will have more activities for a larger celebration.

“We anticipate a significant influx of people, we are looking at several thousands of Negrenses and tourists,” he said.

In addition to the pavilions of the towns and cities as attractions, concerts and major contests will draw large crowds, Lacson said.

Lacson has placed the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council operations center on blue alert for the duration of the festival that runs until April 22.

Blue alert for the Panaad sa Negros Festival means heightened alert at the emergency operations center. Responders and uniformed personnel are prepositioned for deployment for any possible occurrence to ensure the safety and security of the public, Irene Belle Ploteña, Provincial Disaster Management Program Division head, said.

The festival, which will be bigger this year, will start with a thanksgiving mass at the Panaad Park at 8 a.m. Monday, Festival Director Cheryl Decena said Sunday.

It will be followed at 9:30 a.m. by the ribbon cutting ceremonies to open the Livelihood and Food Security Fair (Organic Village), Food Alley (South Road, Panaad Park), Livestock and Dairy Fair Exhibit (East Road, Panaad Grounds), and MUAD and provincial government Abanse Trade Fair (Panaad Stadium Lobby), Decena said.

The simultaneous opening of all the LGU pavilions will be at 10 a.m. Monday.
