Emergency responders of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Bacolod City got an equipment boost, with the turnover of four rescue boats from the city government.
The procurement of the rescue boats, each having a capacity of six to eight passengers, was funded through the 20 percent local government unit (LGU) share from the Fire Code fees collected in this highly urbanized city.
City fire marshal Supt. Jenny Mae Masip said in a video released on Friday that the arrival of the rescue boats is very timely in their response to the challenges brought by the rainy season, such as flooding and other water-related emergencies.
“More than just equipment, these boats represent readiness, preparedness and a commitment to save lives,” she said.
Masip said this logistical support will strengthen the capability of the Bacolod City Fire Station in conducting rescue and evacuation operations in flooded areas.
“This is a clear example of how fire safety resources are transformed into life-saving capabilities for our community,” she added.
Based on the joint circular of the Department of Budget and Management and the Department of the Interior and Local Government in February 2015, the 20 percent LGU share from all taxes, fees and fines collected by BFP shall be set aside and retained for use by the city or municipal government concerned.
The LGU shall then appropriate the same exclusively for the use of the operation and maintenance of its local fire station, including the construction and repair of the fire station.*PNA
