BFAR: Visayan Sea closed season starts

The Visayan Sea closed season or “Ang Pahuway sang Baybay” started Tuesday, November 15, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region 6 announced.

This means that the harvesting of tuloy, tamban, tabagak, balantiyong, guma, bualo, and hasa-hasa will be temporarily banned within three months until February 15, 2023.

The BFAR Region 6 said the ban on fishing in the Visayan Sea is to give the fishes a time to spawn or reproduce.

Among the 22 coastal areas that will be affected by the fishing ban are the towns of EB Magalona and Manapla and the cities of Victorias, Cadiz, Sagay and Escalante in Negros Occidental.

Also affected are the fisherfolks of Carles, Estancia, Batad, San Dionisio, Concepcion, Ajuy, Barotac Viejo, Banate, Anilao, Barotac Nuevo in the province of Iloilo and Roxas City, Panay, Pontevedra, President Roxas, and Pilar, in the province of Capiz.*
