Mayor seeks review of need for MassKara signal jamming

Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez is asking for a review of the necessity to jam mobile phones during the highlight of the Masskara Festival.

He asked the Presidential Security Group if they can do away with the signal jamming if it is not really a security issue, Benitez said on Monday, October 16.

“They are reviewing if its really necessary,” he said.

Benitez said there is no confirmation yet on whether President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will be arriving for the culmination of the MassKara Festival on October 22.

Marcos will travel to Saudi Arabia on Thursday, October 19, to attend the inaugural summit between Southeast Asian leaders and Gulf states on Friday, October 20.

Benitez said the president will be coming from Saudi Arabia so he is not sure if he will get back on time.

However, Benitez expects First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos to join the festival as she is not going with the president to Saudi Arabia.*
