Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said he is looking forward to more decreases in Central Negros Electric Cooperative’s power rates in July and the succeeding months.
Benitez issued the statement on Saturday, June 15, following Ceneco’s announcement of a drop in its residential power rates by P2.40 per kilowatt hour in June.
Further drops in power rates are expected after the Energy Regulatory Commission positively responded to the mayor’s urgent request for the approval of the Power Supply Agreement between CENECO and the Energy Development Corporation, his spokesman Caesar Distrito said on Saturday.
Benitez “emphasized that power rate reduction is crucial as we move forward to provide relief, especially to consumers who can hardly make ends meet in these challenging times”, Distrito said.
The mayor is persistent in seeking measures to ensure affordable power for consumers, he added.
The mayor is reminding the public to not just rely on reduced power bills, but to continue to observe energy-saving practices at home, Distrito said.*
