BCPO reminds protesters to secure permits for peaceful assemblies

The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) reminded rally organizers and participants on Saturday, Sept. 13, to comply with legal requirements under Batas Pambansa Blg. 880, or the Public Assembly Act of 1985.

The BCPO, in a press release, reiterated that while it fully upholds the right to freedom of expression and assembly, securing a permit is necessary to ensure accountability, public safety, and the orderly conduct of protests.

“Freedom of expression is a right we deeply respect. However, in the interest of maintaining peace and order, protesters are reminded to observe the law,” the BCPO stated.

Authorities also noted that designated areas have been identified where individuals and groups can freely and safely exercise their right to peaceful assembly.

“By applying for the required permit, accountability is established, and we can ensure the safety and security of everyone,” the press release said.

The BCPO assured the public that it will continue to strike a balance between protecting constitutional freedoms and maintaining peace in the community.

Organizers are encouraged to coordinate directly with the police office for assistance and guidance on holding lawful assemblies.*
