The renovation of the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) grounds and Bacolod Public Plaza to be undertaken by the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) will begin this July, Mayor Greg Gasataya said Friday, July 11.

During a meeting with TIEZA officials on Friday, Gasataya finalized the renovation schedule, emphasizing the urgency of the project, a press release from the Bacolod City Communications Office (BCCO) stated.

“Initiating the project as soon as possible will allow Bacolodnons to witness revitalized and improved public spaces,” the mayor said.

“Even if the renovation won’t be fully completed before the MassKara Festival, it’s important that we show progress – a fresh new face for Bacolodnons to enjoy,” Gasataya said.

Engineer Gregory Oller from TIEZA’s Architectural and Engineering Sector confirmed that construction can commence this July, contingent on the submission and approval of all necessary documents.

While the entire project is expected to extend into next year, priority will be given to essential components such as lighting and electrical works. These upgrades are targeted for completion before the MassKara Festival, aiming to enhance the ambiance and safety for festival-goers.

The project was initially slated to begin in February and conclude by November. However, the BCCO attributed delays to the final validation of suppliers and procurement processes.*
