Bacolod City College (BCC) is gearing up for a new batch of licensed teachers for Academic Year 2025-2026 on August 11, following its recent success in the Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (LEPT).
“As we open the new school year, we look forward to producing new licensed professional teachers,” Dr. Ma. Johanna Ann R. Bayoneta, BCC College Administrator, said on Sunday, June 15.
BCC was recognized at the 1st Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Regional Quality Awards for Region XVIII (Negros Island Region), at the Luce Auditorium of Silliman University in Dumaguete City on May 30, a press release from the college said.
It received an award for its outstanding performance in the March 2025 LEPT, where it ranked 5th nationwide among top-performing schools in the secondary level category.
The college was cited for its impressive passing rate, with 92 out of 94 first-time takers and three out of eight re-takers passing the exam — resulting in a total of 95 passers out of 102 examinees, or a 93.14 percent overall passing rate, the press release said.
In the elementary level, BCC also showed exemplary results. All 26 first-time takers passed, while one re-taker did not qualify. This produced a total of 26 passers out of 27 examinees, yielding 96.30 percent passing rate.
BCC has consistently demonstrated excellence in teacher education, the press release said.
In the September 2023 LEPT, the college topped Region VI in the elementary level, with 58 out of 62 first-time takers and one out of two re-takers passing. In the secondary level, 132 out of 144 first-timers and 11 out of 19 re-takers passed, placing BCC third in the region.
In September 2018, 86 BCC graduates passed the LET, placing the college among the top 10 institutions in the country based on passing percentage. That same year, BCC ranked 23rd out of 4,500 teacher education institutions nationwide.
BCC also produced a topnotcher in 2016. Ma. Fatima Ofracio, a cum laude BEEd graduate, ranked 9th nationwide in the elementary level LET out of 77,466 examinees.
That year, BCC became the only higher education institution in Negros Occidental included in the Top 10 Performing Schools, with an 81.67 percent passing rate (49 out of 60 examinees).
In the September 2015 LET, BCC was also recognized as one of the top-performing schools in the elementary level, ranking 7th nationwide with a passing rate of 82.46 percent.
These accomplishments reflect Bacolod City College’s commitment to academic excellence and quality teacher education, as it continues to raise the bar for higher education in the region and beyond, the press release said.*
