Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) Negros protesters called on the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Bacolod City to submit an accounting of its flood control projects.
Members of the group staged a protest in front of the DPWH office in Bacolod City Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 9.
Noly Rosales, Bayan Muna spokesman, said P7 billion was allegedly allocated for flood projects in Bacolod, but flooding continues to happen and endanger people’s lives.
“We want an accounting of the people’s money,” he said.
Rosales asked why Bacolod Mayor Greg Gasataya has been silent on the DPWH projects in Bacolod City.
Rosales also slammed what he called the DPWH’s lack of coordination in the implementation of its drainage projects, which has caused power poles to fall.
The protesters also called for the jailing of “corrupt” DPWH personnel and government officials.*
