Bago Hall of Justice, school in Escalante get bomb threats

Bomb threats temporarily disrupted operations at the Hall of Justice in Bago City and a public high school in Escalante City, Negros Occidental, on Thursday, Feb. 26.

In Bago City, employees of the Hall of Justice received a bomb threat through the messaging application Messenger, prompting authorities to conduct security procedures.

The police Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team conducted a panel inspection of the facility, but no explosive device was found.

Operations at the Hall of Justice resumed after authorities declared the area clear.

A bomb scare also interrupted classes at Mabini National High School in Escalante City.

Police said the school principal received a text message from an unidentified sender claiming that a bomb had been planted inside the Grade 9 and Grade 10 buildings and would explode three hours after the message was sent.

The threat was reported to authorities at around 11:40 a.m., prompting police to secure the campus and establish a security perimeter.

Teachers and students were immediately evacuated to a designated safe area.

Assistance was sought from the Coast Guard Escalante Canine Unit and the 1st Negros Occidental Provincial Mobile Force Company to conduct inspection and clearing operations.

Authorities later declared the campus safe after no explosive device was recovered.

Police are investigating both incidents to identify the people responsible for the bomb threats.*
