Bacolodon shoots senior citizen, says he mistook him for an ‘aswang’

A Bacolodnon will face frustrated murder and other charges for shooting a senior citizen whom he thought was an “aswang (evil creature)” at Abada Escay in Brgy. Vista Alegre, Bacolod City, on Friday, June 27.

Rudy Hiso-an, 62, was injured after he was shot by his neighbor Roberto Ramos, 52.

Ramos, who in the drug watchlist of the police, said that he thought the victim was an “aswang”.

The victim sustained a gunshot wound in the chest and was brought to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City.

Capt. Dax Santillan, Bacolod Police Station 7 commander, said that the victim is now in stable condition while the suspect is under their custody.

The police said that the suspect was under police monitoring since he was on their drug watchlist and had been temporarily released after he posted bail for frustrated murder charges filed earlier.

During their body search of the suspect, the police said they recovered four sachets of suspected shabu valued at P81,600 and a .45 caliber pistol with a magazine and bullet.

Santillan said that the complainant will file a frustrated murder case against the suspect . The police will also file charges against him for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and R.A. 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.*
