Bacolodnon OFW in Bahrain scheduled to return home

A Bacolodnon Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) currently in Bahrain is now scheduled for repatriation through the coordination of the Bacolod City Help Desk and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).

Bacolod Mayor Greg Gasataya confirmed that the city has established communication with the worker’s family, who are now awaiting the official travel schedule from national authorities.

While the escalating Middle East crisis has caused logistical delays in the repatriation process, the city government has committed to monitoring the situation until the OFW arrives safely in Bacolod.

The urgency for this specific return was brought to the city’s attention after a social media post highlighted the worker’s double burden of battling cancer while navigating the growing regional conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran.

Beyond this individual case, the Bacolod City Help Desk has recorded over 80 concerns from Bacolod families as of March 9.

Despite the heightened tensions, city records indicate that the majority of OFWs contacted have opted to remain abroad to continue supporting their families financially, the mayor said.*
