Bacolodnon new head of UPV-NIMBB

Dr. Carmelo S. del Castillo of the Institute of Aquaculture, College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences has been appointed the new director of the University of the Philippines Visayas – National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (UPV-NIMBB) effective June 15.

Del Castillo finished his bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of St. La Salle in Bacolod City.

After studying at the University of the Philippines Visayas in 2000, he pursued further graduate studies in Kagoshima University, Japan, where he earned his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Marine Sciences as a recipient of the Monbugakusho scholarship program.

Del Castillo also spent long years of conducting researches in the fields of aquatic microbiology and fish immunology. Some of his previous works include being a Research Professor at the Aquatic Biotechnology Center of the World Class University Project, Gyeongsang National University, South Korea (2010-2012) and as a PostDoc Associate at the Marine Animal Diseases Laboratory, Stony Brook University, New York, USA (2012-2014).*
