Bacolod City, in partnership with La Consolacion College (LCC) Bacolod, is set to unveil an augmented reality (AR) tourism mural that will showcase its own history, culture, heritage and tourism identity.
The launch of the AR mural at the Bacolod City Government Center grounds on Sept. 14 is part of the flagship activities of Bacolod Tourism Week 2026, the City Tourism Development Office said on Tuesday.
“The project will integrate a physical mural with an interactive augmented reality experience accessible through supported mobile devices,” LCC Bacolod said in a statement.
An AR mural merges physical street art with digital content. By scanning a painted wall with a smartphone camera or QR (quick response) code, viewers reveal hidden animations, 3D elements, video sequences, or sound effects overlaid directly onto the physical artwork.
On the part of LCC Bacolod, the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management is tasked to develop the project concept, theme and narrative and help ensure that its content accurately represents Bacolod’s cultural and tourism identity.
The School of Architecture, Fine Arts, and Interior Design leads the preparation and execution of the mural design and create the digital art assets needed for augmented reality integration.
The School of Business and Information Technology is assigned to develop and integrate the AR application, conduct testing and quality assurance, and provide technical assistance during installation, launching and initial implementation.
The City Tourism Development Office and other concerned offices are tasked to take charge of the project venue, facilitate necessary permits and clearances, maintain the website hosting and digital infrastructure, coordinate implementation and lead the promotion and official launching of the project.
In a statement, Mayor Greg Gasataya thanked LCC-Bacolod and its other partners in strengthening tourism promotion, visitor experience, innovation, and opportunities for local enterprises.
