Bacolod City Councilor Celia Flor filed a resolution before the Sangguniang Panlungsod Wednesday, for the City Engineer’s Office, City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office and the General Services Office to assist in the immediate cleaning and de-clogging of the drainage systems at the Libertad, Burgos and Central markets in Bacolod City.*
The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod on Wednesday, July 13, called for the immediate cleaning, flushing, de-clogging, dredging and repair of pipelines, drainages and surroundings of the three major public markets of the city.
The call is contained in a resolution authored by Councilor Celia Flor that was approved by the SP during its regular session.
The resolution enjoins the City Engineer’s Office, City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office and the General Services Office to assist the market administrations in the cleanup operations at the Libertad, Burgos and Central markets as a stop-gap measure pending full rehabilitation according to Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez’s agenda.
Flor, SP Committee on Markets and Slaughterhouse chairperson, said she conducted a routine check of the city’s major markets and discovered various issues that need to be addressed.
She cited clogged pipelines and drainage systems in and surrounding the markets, pools of dirty water, garbage and the overall unsanitary situation.
This situation causes flooding, renders pathways impassable and poses health hazards for vendors and consumers, Flor said.
Also approved by the SP was a resolution authored by Flor requesting the Bacolod barangay captains to assist the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs in the validation of senior citizens’ data for an updated database.
A resolution enjoining the office of Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez to constitute an Inter-Agency Monitoring Team and concerned agencies to assess the functionality of the Barangay Violence Against Women Desk was also approved by the SP, Flor said.*
