Bacolod City brought its urban development agenda to the global stage as Councilor Em Ang and City Planning and Development Office Head Jean Ramos participated in the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from May 17-22.
Ang served as a speaker during the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) session, where she presented Bacolod City’s urban mobility plan. She highlighted the city’s Urban Greenway Network and its vision for modernizing transport through a sustainable, climate-resilient transit grid fully aligned with the Philippine Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program.
“The future of our cities depends on how we reimagine mobility to serve people while protecting the environment,” Ang said during her presentation.
“Bacolod is committed to building a transport system that is inclusive, efficient, and resilient to climate impacts”, she said.
Jean Ramos represented the city in fireside discussions focused on climate finance, sharing Bacolod’s strategies for mobilizing resources to support climate adaptation and mitigation projects at the local level.
She emphasized the importance of aligning local planning with national frameworks and international best practices to attract investment for sustainable infrastructure.
The World Urban Forum, convened by UN-Habitat, is the world’s premier conference on sustainable urbanization, a press release said.
WUF13 gathered government officials, planners, civil society, and private sector leaders to exchange solutions for building inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable cities.
