Bacolod City and several other towns and cities in Negros Occidental have ordered the cancellation of classes for a second day on Wednesday, August 30, with Typhoon “Goring” expected to continue to bring rains.
Acting Gov. Jeffrey Ferrer placed Negros Occidental under blue alert on Tuesday until the weather condition improves. He said “Goring” enhanced rains could trigger more floods and landslides.
Silay City, Talisay City, EB Magalona, La Carlota City, Binalbagan Hinoba-an, Kabankalan City Hinigaran, Himamaylan City and Bago City extended their suspension of classes until Wednesday.
Don Salvador Benedicto and Pulupandan extended the suspension of classes in their areas until Thursday, August 31.
“Goring” is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) either Wednesday or Thursday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
Tropical Storm “Haikui” is expected to enter the PAR this week and will be given the local name “Hanna”.
The tropical cyclone is unlikely to directly affect the country, but will enhance the southwest monsoon, causing monsoon rains over the western portion of Luzon and the Visayas throughout this week, PAGASA said.*
