
Three Bacolod councilors signified their commitment to End Violence Against Women during a commitment signing at the flag ceremony at the Bacolod City Government Center on Monday, November 28.
Councilors Celia Matea Flor, Thaddy Sayson, and Simplicia Distrito were among those who signed their commitment at rites that officially launched Bacolod City’s series of activities in observance of the 18-day Campaign to End Gender Violence.
The BCGC was also adorned with orange ribbons, the official color of the campaign, which symbolizes hope and a future free of violence for all, said Flor, chairperson of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Women, Gender, Family and Childcare.



“We continue to call for zero tolerance against any form of abuse against women and children. We have signed this commitment and we will be accountable to it and to our constituents”, she said.
The committee, together with the Local Council against Trafficking and Violence Against Women, chaired by Mayor Albee Benitez, has organized various activities in line with the observance.
On Sunday, a self-defense class organized by Zonta Bacolod was conducted at the Bacolod City Public Plaza as part of the observance.
Within 18 days, there will be training on Gender-responsive case management for Social Workers, and new laws on women for barangay chairs of their respective Committees on Women, Flor said.
There will also be the distribution of flyers on advocacy in various areas of Bacolod, she added.
Every Friday until December 12 city employees are encouraged to wear something orange, Flor said.
“Take Back the Night: Orange Zumba” will also be held at the BCG grounds as a culmination activity om on December 12.*
