Bacolod, NegOcc inflation rates ease further in July

Inflation rates for all income households in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental eased further in July, data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) on Wednesday showed.

Bacolod City’s inflation rate decelerated to 0.1 percent in July, from 0.5 percent in June; while Negros Occidental logged 0.6 percent in July, from 1.2 percent in June.

The May inflation rate in Bacolod and Negros Occidental was identical at 2.4 percent.

In a press briefing, PSA-Negros Occidental officer-in-charge Diesah Biaoco said the top source of deceleration of the July inflation in Bacolod City was restaurants and accommodation services.

The commodity group recorded 3.8 percent last month, from 6.1 percent in June, she said.

Major contributors were food and non-alcoholic beverages at -2.1 percent in July from -0.5 percent in June, with 44.4 percent share; and education services at 5.3 percent in July from 19.1 percent in June, with 36.1 percent share.

With its current inflation rate, restaurants and accommodation services contributed 16 percent to the overall inflation.

Inflation for the bottom 30 percent income households in Bacolod City also slowed to -1.1 percent in July, from -0.4 percent in June.

Biaoco said in Negros Occidental, the main source of deceleration was alcoholic beverages and tobacco at 6.7 percent in July, from 6.8 percent in June.

With 56.7 percent share, food and non-alcoholic beverages at -1.0 percent in July from 0.0 percent in June 2025, is the top major contributors to overall inflation in the province.

It is followed by education services at 3.0 percent in July, from 21.9 percent inflation in June, with 32 percent share; as well as transport, -1.2 percent in July, from -0.3 percent in June, with 9.3 percent share.
